Senators ask feds to probe requests for passwords

Troubled by reports of the practice of employers asking for Facebook passwords during job interviews, Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York, left, and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said they are calling on the Department of Justice and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to launch investigations. (AP) ? Two U.S. senators are asking Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate whether employers asking for Facebook passwords during job interviews are violating federal law, their offices announced Sunday.

Troubled by reports of the practice, Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said they are calling on the Department of Justice and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to launch investigations. The senators are sending letters to the heads of the agencies.

The Associated Press reported last week that some private and public agencies around the country are asking job seekers for their social media credentials. The practice has alarmed privacy advocates, but the legality of it remains murky.

On Friday, Facebook warned employers not to ask job applicants for their passwords to the site so they can poke around on their profiles. The company threatened legal action against applications that violate its long-standing policy against sharing passwords.

A Facebook executive cautioned that if an employer discovers that a job applicant is a member of a protected group, the employer may be vulnerable to claims of discrimination if it doesn't hire that person.

Personal information such as gender, race, religion and age are often displayed on a Facebook profile ? all details that are protected by federal employment law.

"We don't think employers should be asking prospective employees to provide their passwords because we don't think it's the right thing to do. While we do not have any immediate plans to take legal action against any specific employers, we look forward to engaging with policy makers and other stakeholders, to help better safeguard the privacy of our users," Facebook said in a statement.

Not sharing passwords is a basic tenet of online conduct. Aside from the privacy concerns, Facebook considers the practice a security risk.

"In an age where more and more of our personal information ? and our private social interactions ? are online, it is vital that all individuals be allowed to determine for themselves what personal information they want to make public and protect personal information from their would-be employers. This is especially important during the job-seeking process, when all the power is on one side of the fence," Schumer said in a statement.

Specifically, the senators want to know if this practice violates the Stored Communications Act or the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Those two acts, respectively, prohibit intentional access to electronic information without authorization and intentional access to a computer without authorization to obtain information.

The senators also want to know whether two court cases relating to supervisors asking current employees for social media credentials could be applied to job applicants.

"I think it's going to take some years for courts to decide whether Americans in the digital age have the same privacy rights" as previous generations, American Civil Liberties Union attorney Catherine Crump said in a previous interview with the AP.

The senators also said they are drafting a bill to fill in any gaps that current laws don't cover.

Maryland and Illinois are considering bills that would bar public agencies for asking for this information.

In California, Democratic Sen. Leland Yee introduced a bill that would prohibit employers from asking current employees or job applicants for their social media user names or passwords. That state measure also would bar employers from requiring access to employees' and applicants' social media content, to prevent employers from requiring logins or printouts of that content for their review.

Freshwater fish and living conditions, are we doing too much? | Pets ...

Hello,
My question is with regards to fish and conditions of living. I have always been intrigued by the living conditions that pet shop provide to freshwater fish on sale. I?m not a resident of the United States. Pet shops in my country provide the minimum acceptable living conditions to their fish, no soaking of pellets before feeding, water changes only once a month and overstocked and dirty aquarium. Yet, I?ve observed that all the different varieties of fish even the supposedly more sensitive ones such as dicus which requires clean water stay in good health for a long time. I mean they look healthy, their fins are not clamped etc. We aquarists have always been taught that we should do regular weekly water changes and take many steps to keep our goldfish healthy and prevent diseases. So how come, the goldfish at the pet store apparently do not get sick for such a long time.

In spite I try as far as I can to provide good living conditions for my goldfish, they always get sick. The fish I bought got sick, I tried to cure it but in vain. I don?t understand where the problem is, should I perform less water changes as the pet shop.

Are we exaggerating when we strive to provide optimum water conditions to our pet fish and thereby diminishing their resistance to pathogens.

Answer by mwm0788
What you perceive as optimal living conditions may not be in line with is actually needed..

No biggie, sometimes we tend to over care for our fish not realizing it? s hurting them?

If you give the fish the proper size home, use a filter, don;?t overstock the tank, under feed and do no more than 15-20% water changes weekly there is no chance of a fish dieing on on you.

as well you may want to change where you buy fish..

there fish could be very inbred and genetically flawed and doomed to die early?

that would not be your fault then would it??.

good luck

Japan readies N. Korea missile defense

From Yoko Wakatsuki, CNN

March 23, 2012 -- Updated 0726 GMT (1526 HKT)

A new satellite image of a North Korean launch pad reveals a new rail extension but little on-site activity ahead of a controversial rocket launch planned for April.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • North Korea's announcement of a planned satellite launch has provoked alarm
  • Other countries say it is a way of testing missile technology
  • The Japanese defense minister orders the preparation of missile defenses

Tokyo (CNN) -- The Japanese defense minister said Friday that he had ordered the country's military to prepare a missile defense system ahead of a planned rocket launch by North Korea next month.

North Korea said last week that it is planning to carry out a rocket-powered satellite launch between April 12 and 16, alarming countries around the region.

South Korea has said it considers the satellite launch an attempt to develop a nuclear-armed missile, while the United States has warned the move would jeopardize a food-aid agreement reached with Pyongyang in early March.

Naoki Tanaka, the Japanese defense minister, said at a news conference Friday that he had requested that officials get ready for the deployment of anti-missile PAC3 and Eagis ships ahead of the launch.

The Japanese government is also considering deploying a PAC3 missile defense system in Okinawa. Tanaka said he would visit Okinawa soon in preparation for such a move.

Tanaka had said Monday that he would consider ordering the destruction of the projectile if it presented a risk to Japan.

North Korea says it has a right to a peaceful space program and has invited international space experts and journalists to witness the launch.

In a recent notice to the International Maritime Organization regarding the "launch of an earth observation satellite," the North Korean government provided notice of where the anticipated drop zones would be for the two-stage rocket.

The notice was signed by North Korea's director general of its maritime administration, Ko Nung Du, and advised the launch would take place between 7 a.m. and noon, local time, on one of the expected days.

The rocket's path will go over "the South Korean islands of Baegryeong-do, Daecheong-do and Socheong-do, and then across open water until it passes between Japan's Miyako and Ishigaki islands before heading further south," according to the North Korea Tech blog which first obtained the North Korea documents and has plotted the coordinates.

The expected drop zones of the two-stage rocket are off the western coast of South Korea and to the east of Luzon Island in the Philippines, according to the blog.

CNN's Adam Levine contributed to this report.

Microsoft and TiVo agree to drop ongoing patent suits, we ask the world to follow

ImageAt last. A pair of companies decide that bickering (and spending) in the courtroom over patents just isn't worthwhile. In an era where it seems like every technology company under the sun is suing at least one other for nondescript "infringements," TiVo and Microsoft are laying aside their differences. Purportedly, both outfits have reached an agreement "under which both companies will dismiss pending litigation over patents." According to a regulatory filing, nary a patent right was granted to Microsoft by TiVo, but for whatever reason, the two have decided that both can continue operations without any more meddling. It all started early last year, when the folks in Redmond alleged that TiVo was infringing on four of its patents; predictably, TiVo slung one of its many patent-related suits in Microsoft's direction. Those looking to dive fully into the last chapter in this one can hit the links below; for the 99 percent, just scoot your eyes down to the next article and exhale in relief. So, Samsung, Apple -- you guys paying attention?

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has praised Foreign Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, for a successful stewardship while serving as Finance Minister.

?

In a Ministry of Foreign Affairs? press release, AfDB?s President, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, sent a letter of congratulations expressing sincere appreciation for Ngafuan?s invaluable contribution to the consolidation of good relations between the Bank and Liberia during his (Ngafuan) tenure as Finance Minister. Liberia?s current Finance Minister, Amara Konneh, has been copied with the letter of congratulations, dated March 7, 2012, according to the release.

?

Dr. Kaberuka lauded the fruitful cooperation that exists between Liberia and the Bank and commended Ngafuan for his "contribution, constant goodwill and exemplary support" to the work of the Bank.

?

The AfDB President also congratulated Ngafuan for his elevation to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, wishing him success in his new portfolio. He then renewed the Bank?s commitment to further improve cooperation with Liberia.

?

Ngafuan, in his last capacity as Finance Minister, served as Liberia?s governor on the AfDB?s Board of Governors and chairman of AfDB Constituency comprising Liberia, Ghana, Gambia, Sudan and Sierra Leone. He was among African ministers who lobbied with donors for the successful replenishment of the African Development Fund (ADF-12).

?

The Foreign Ministry?s release recalled that Dr. Kaberuka addressed a letter of appreciation, dated 29, 2010, to Ngafuan as Finance Minister at the time, recognizing his (Ngafuan) contributions during meetings that helped the Bank to present case for selected areas of intervention under the ADF-12. The release quoted Dr. Kaberuka?s November 29, 2010 communication as saying to Ngafuan, "The timely and succinct intervention you made during these meetings helped the Bank present strong case for the selected and focused areas of intervention under the ADF-12."

?

He further informed Ngafuan that, with his assistance, the ADF deputies agreed on a replenishment level of US$9.5 billion for three years (2011-2013). According to the African Development Bank President, the figure amounted to a 10.6 percent increase in donor contributions over the ADF-11. During the tenure of former Finance Minister Ngafuan, the AfDB took a giant step in strengthening its relationship with Liberia by opening a Country Office in Monrovia.

How To Stop Panic Attacks & Anxiety Attacks ... - Health X Pert Articles

Click Image To Visit Site If you?re anything like I was 3 years ago, then you probably answered "yes" to quite a few of those questions. A normal day for me back then would include 10 or 15 panic attacks. They were HUGE attacks too. The kind that would leave me curled up in a corner somewhere, crying, shaking, too exhausted to do anything. It didnt get much better when the attacks stopped. Because even then I had to live with the general anxiety that had ruined my life for the previous 17 years. I was scared that any minute Id have another panic attack. When an attack came I was scared I was going to die. When my anxiety caused physical symptoms like headaches, dizziness, depersonalization, and palpitations, I was scared I had some terrible illness that was going to kill me. And pretty much every minute of my day I was scared that my life would always be that way. That it would never get better. I lost count of how many times I saw my doctor. And seeing her wasnt an easy thing to do when just the thought of leaving the house was enough to make me throw up. In the end she put me on medication. First sedatives, which numbed me to the point where half the time I didnt know where I was. And not just one anti-depressant. Three of them. Because the first two caused such unbearable side-effects I couldnt stand them for more than a couple of days. I was on a cocktail of drugs for more than 9 months, and you know the crazy thing? My anxiety and panic were as bad as ever. And I was still having all the panic attacks. And I was still living in fear. Actually, things were worse. Now, as well as my anxiety problems, I also had to deal with the side-effects from the medications I was taking. The psychologist had me talking to empty chairs where my dead father was supposed to be sitting. Really helpful stuff. My sessions with her were pointless, and seeing her each week had become one of my biggest worries. And extra fears and worries were the last thing I needed. Id tried to help myself by reading books on anxiety too. I read dozens of them. Stuff on cognitive behavioural therapy, distraction techniques, relaxation, positive thinking. And even after everything, I still found myself curled up in a ball in the corner of my bedroom one night, having the longest, most awful, most scary panic attack of my life. My memory of that night will never leave me. From midnight until 7 the next morning Id had one long and unbearable and terrifying panic attack. I really thought I was losing my mind. Id locked myself in my bedroom because I was sure if any of my family got in they would have me put in a mental asylum. When the morning came, and my mind had cleared enough for me to think straight, I knew it had? Related Blogs Read more?

Anna Gristina, Soccer Mom Turned Manhattan Madam, Faces Prison Term

Now-infamous soccer-mom-turned-Manhattan-madam Anna Gristina has been charged with promoting prostitution and sent to NYC's notorious Rikers Island.

The 44-year-old was allegedly running the multi-million dollar sex ring out of an Upper West Side apartment and is currently being held on $2 million bail.

She may be making prison her home for awhile.

Gristina

“My intention is to meet the DA with a view toward a disposition or resolving the matter ... if I think a plea is the appropriate thing,” her lawyer Gary Greenwald said.

A prison term would await after any guilty plea, if prosecutors have their way.

Prosecutor Charles Linehan, who's heading the investigation into Gristina's operation due to alleged evidence of potential police protection, said his office wants Gristina to go away for the maximum - at least 2 1/3 years prison, and as much as 7.

Insiders believe Gristina would cop silently.

"She pleads guilty, doesn't tell prosecutors a thing about how she ran her operation, goes up to [Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County] and gets out in a year or so on work release, with good behavior," said one strategist.

"It sounds like a plan, right? She'll be near her home and family, [in upstate Monroe County] she doesn't give up anybody, she doesn't make any enemies."

"That's how she's leaning right now."

Her silence would greatly hamper prosecutors, who are desperate for her cooperation against her alleged millionaire johns and high power alleged collaborators.

US govt sets new tariffs on China solar panels

(AP) ? The Commerce Department is imposing new import fees on solar panels made in China, finding that the Chinese government is improperly giving subsidies to manufacturers of the panels there.

The Commerce Department said Tuesday it has found on a preliminary basis that Chinese solar panel makers have received government subsidies of 2.9 percent to 4.73 percent. Therefore, the department said, tariffs in the same proportions will be charged on Chinese panels imported into the U.S., depending on which company makes them.

The tariff amounts are considered small, but the decision could ratchet up trade tensions between the U.S. and China. Several U.S. solar panel makers had asked the government to impose steep tariffs on Chinese imports. They are struggling against stiff competition from China as well as weakening demand in Europe and other key markets, just as President Barack Obama is working to promote renewable energy.

"Today's announcement affirms what U.S. manufacturers have long known: Chinese manufacturers have received unfair ... subsidies," Steve Ostrenga, CEO of Helios Solar Works in Milwaukee, said in a statement. The company is a member of a group called the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing.

On the other side, some U.S. companies argue that low-priced Chinese imports have helped consumers and promote rapid growth of the industry.

The new tariffs are low, making the Commerce Department decision "a relatively positive outcome for the U.S. solar industry and its 100,000 employees," said Jigar Shah, president of the Coalition for Affordable Solar Energy. "However, tariffs large or small will hurt American jobs and prolong our world's reliance on fossil fuels. Fortunately, this decision will not significantly raise solar prices in the United States."

Members of CASE include California-based SunEdison, Recurrent Energy, SolarCity and Westinghouse Solar, as well as China-based Suntech Power Holdings Co.

Commerce said it was putting off until May 17 a decision on whether Chinese companies are dumping the solar panels on world markets, selling them below cost. Tariffs for dumping cases usually are much steeper than those intended to counteract subsidies.

Also, because the decision on subsidy-related tariffs is preliminary, the amount of those tariffs could eventually be changed.

"Today's decision by the Commerce Department is a signal that China's unfair trade practices in the solar energy industry may soon be remedied, giving American producers a more level playing field on which to compete," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said following the announcement. "As the administration continues its investigation into exposing China's subsidies, and especially into the question of dumping, I anticipate that the tariff margins will significantly swell."

Oregon is the home base of SolarWorld Industries America Inc., the largest U.S. maker of silicon solar cells and panels, which has led the U.S. manufacturers' complaints. It is a subsidiary of Germany's SolarWorld AG.

Trade tensions with China are especially sensitive at a time when the U.S. and other Western economies want to boost technology exports to revive economic growth and reduce high unemployment.

The Commerce Department decision "puts the White House in a bind," said David Spooner, an international trade attorney at Squire Sanders in Washington who previously held positions at Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

The administration wants domestic solar manufacturers to be protected from unfair foreign competition. But higher prices on foreign products designed to accomplish that also could hurt the goal of encouraging Americans to use solar energy, Spooner noted.

The U.S. and China are two of the world's biggest markets for solar, wind and other renewable energy technology. Both governments are promoting their own suppliers in hopes of generating higher-paid technology jobs.

China announced its own probe in November, saying it will investigate whether U.S. support for renewable energy companies improperly hurts foreign suppliers.

The U.S. manufacturers' complaints have been amplified by the controversy surrounding Solyndra Inc. ? a California-based solar panel maker that filed for bankruptcy protection after winning a $500 million federal loan from the Obama administration.

Solyndra's failure embarrassed the administration and prompted a lengthy review by congressional Republicans who are critical of Obama's green energy policies. Solyndra has cited Chinese competition as a key reason for its failure.

U.S. energy officials say China spent more than $30 billion last year to subsidize its solar industry. Obama said in November that China has "questionable competitive practices" in clean energy and that his administration has fought "these kinds of dumping activities." The administration will act to enforce trade laws where appropriate, Obama said.

Obama is visiting a big solar energy plant Wednesday in Boulder City, Nev., part of a four-state swing aimed at showcasing his administration's energy policies.

Internet marketers who blazed the trail in by making use of autoresponders and Google Adwords were in a good position to succeed financially simply because they had only a few competitors. Through the years, online marketing has progressed to the point that it is now imperative to connect in a good way with current and potential customers. The following paragraphs will talk about different aspects of relationship marketing and the methods you can employ to build your business.

Even though email marketing isn?t the only way to get in touch swiftly with customers today, it is still vitally important in establishing a business online. List building is different because the primary focus is not on increasing your number of subscribers. It is a fact that anyone that joins your list will also be on all kinds of other lists and the aim for you is to make certain your emails are the ones that get read. You already know that open rates have undoubtedly fallen recently, so your subscribers must see you as someone whose messages are thought too important to overlook. As everyone knows, when you give generously you can look forward to getting numerous benefits in return. You will find that your customers are more willing to order things that you endorse if you have previously given them helpful information for free.

Consequently, if e-mail marketing is still regarded as an essential part of the marketing process, we should admit that social media has added a new dimension to relationship marketing. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are currently important aspects of the lives of many people and the subjects they discuss can make or break an online business. As internet marketers it can be quite beneficial to have a presence on these web sites if you have the intention to offer a positive experience for individuals you interact with. If you engage with folks in such a way that they like you and trust you, they may be prepared to visit your site or sign up for your email list. Using your email and online marketing to create purchasers out of these visitors is what you?re after over the long haul.

If you develop your knowledge of these social sites, you can rapidly establish a loyal following by the way you build relationships. There are lots of online marketers who have experienced good results with these web sites and you can copy them in your own business. Typical of any kind of online marketing, should you choose to study the efforts of people who have experienced success with a specific technique, you don?t have to make mistakes that can hurt your business long term.

Relationship marketing is the way to go on the Internet and you can expect to experience a better degree of success if you offer value and display honesty in your initiatives.

Zrii Home Based Business Review ? The Queen of Cougars

Copyright ? 2012 Colon Bolden

Zrii is a fairly new company and is making headlines in the health and wellness industry due to the partnership with Chopra Center for Well being. Zrii is lead by a team of direct sales, network marketing and business professionals with a vast background of experience. The company is based out of Utah. Zrii is a nutritional drink formulated using 7 different herbs and fruits, contains no preservatives and is absolutely 100 percent natural. It is designed to increase your health and general well being.

Zrii is a company that uses the network marketing business model to sell a liquid nutritional beverage made from the greatest rejuvenator known in the plant kingdom by the name amalaki. The company is founded by a self made business tycoon, William F. Farley, who is said to be worth close to a billion dollars.

William Farley has a close relationship with the Chopra Center and is or once was the owner of successful companies such as Fruit of the Loom, BVD, Anaheim Citrus Products, and the list goes on. To add to his resume, Mr Farley is also a partner with the Chicago White Sox baseball organization. The Chopra Center for Wellbeing is a very credible endorser for such a drink as Zrii. The Chopra center is headed by no other than Dr. Deepak Chopra, one of the world?s greatest leaders in the field of mind-body medicine.

Zrii ? pronounced as Zree ? is a health drink that?s based on ancient Ayurveda medicine, which has a history of 5,000 years. Zrii juice is a health drink that claims to improve health and promote healthy living. There are seven key ingredients in Zrii, with the main ingredient being Amalaki ? a small fruit grown in India. The other six ingredients include: Haritaki, Tulsi, Turmeric, Ginger, Jujube, and Schizandra.

The juice itself is a nice red color and as you pour it into your glass you can see how hearty the drink is from all the herbs and seeds that stick to the side of the glass. Like with all health drinks, you always wonder how good does it taste. Especially since Zrii is an ayurvedic formulation that combines many herbs with the famous amalaki fruit. Having such a wide range of benefits is a marketers? dream, and, not surprisingly, it is marketed for a wide range of conditions such as obesity and its implications of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and to promote longevity.

The Zrii process involves a world-class team of Western medical doctors, Ayurvedic physicians and chemistry doctors, along with nutrition PhDs that decided to create a formulation unlike any other product on the market. A combination of select herbs and fruits that completely unlocks the potency of amalaki. I found this concept to be incredibly revolutionary, and so much more unique than what other network marketing companies in the nutritional industry are doing.

Liquid Nutritional products are the wave of the future. Our bodies accept liquids much quicker than other forms of nutrients. And there are no toxic glues to break down like there are in tablets. Also kids and elderly alike often prefer liquids to having to swallow a pill. So maybe your friend has told you about the wonderful product of Zrii.

Zrii is an outstanding healthy nutritional drink opportunity to promote if you?re into the health and wellness industry. If you are looking for a business that?s going to teach you how to market like the gurus and get paid learning at the same time. Check out Colon Bolden?s 5 dollar money bomb opportunity that?s supplying the straight-up training information.

How To Use Ezine Advertising To Make The Most Out Of Your Solo ...

If you?ve been into Internet marketing even for a while now, you know how valuable traffic is. It doesn?t matter at all hw beautiful your website happens to be or how amazing your sales letter is ? if you don?t have targeted traffic no one will know. Despite the fact that there are many new and different methods people can use for driving traffic to sites, ezine advertising remains a favorite among marketers. These ads provide you with a low cost way to reach out to your target market. A big budget isn?t necessary to achieve this and that is why so many marketers d.

The first thing you want to be certain of is that your ads are professionally written. An ad that contains grammatical or spelling mistakes isn?t going to impress the ezine subscribers who read it. It?s a good idea to read over your ads several times, as well as spell checking them, before submitting them anywhere. When you place an ad, this is a reflection on you and your product, so if it?s sloppy or full of mistakes people will assume what you?re offering isn?t worth looking at. There are so many aspects of starting and running a successful internet business that includes Clickopp and getting comfortable with making important decisions is one of them. Those who are called, newbies, will be faced with those challenges right from the very first day.

You cannot have a fear of the unknown, even though that is a very normal response for most people. It does not really matter if you feel overwhelmed, in some situations, because you can employ certain methods to alleviate that emotion. One other area where some have difficulty is being concerned about costly mistakes, and we will tell you that every business makes those kinds of mistakes ? so do not worry about it. It is like anything else you start learning, in time the errors will be less and you will be more confident. We tend to think you cannot have enough diversity in your marketing affairs, just as long as they are solid and grounded in common sense.

Make the effort to communicate with the ezine publisher in advance so you?ll be prepared when it?s time to send out your ad. You will need to let the publisher know if you intend to personalize your solo ad by adding the subscriber?s names to the subject line or inside the ad. This is important because personalization is known to increase the response rate and make the ad more effective. It?s really simple to personalize your emails this way, so check with the publisher that their email service can cope with it. All these terms should be arranged with the publisher before you post your ad. We can only speculate that those who have used best niche selection but did not see the gains they were expecting perhaps went forward with insufficient knowledge. If you found your self nodding your head because it seems all too obvious, then you have to keep in mind all those who do not have your level of expertise. One answer to this perpetual problem has been marketing forums because you can get acquainted with people who are doing the same things as you. Not all marketing and advertising strategies are suitable for all businesses, and so our short intros about any one particular approach will help you to have a better sense about how applicable it is. If you really take a very close look at all we talk about, you can spend a lot of time testing and exploring additional possibilities.

If you don?t try to sell directly in your solo ads, you?ll have a much higher response rate. Use the ad to get the attention of your prospects and introduce them to your product or concept. Keep your solo ads low key and informational in tone, and when people go to your website then you can present them with your actual offer. Get your prospects interested in your product by describing its advantages and how it can solve a problem for them. see your actual offer. You can make solo ads even more effective for your marketing needs if you follow the tips above. Even better is that you don?t need a lot of technical skill or rocket science brain power to get these solo ads out to the public. The most critical part of the process is finding the best fit when it comes to ezines. So those are our gift to you, today, more IM methods you can put in your tool bag. Any time you read an article that talks about online marketing methods pertaining to SEO Link Monster or anything else, just assume there is much more to the story. There is always much more in-depth knowledge to be found, and there can sometimes be a substantial amount depending on what it is.

New online marketers can sometimes get lost in the process of discovery and spend a bit too much time buried in books.

It is not as hard as it may seem, and all you need to do is start doing one thing each day until it becomes a routine. Work on your sense of self-discipline, and that could mean dragging your self to your computer in the evening after your regular job and just working for half an hour or an hour.

(AP) ? Lewis Hamilton led a McLaren one-two Saturday by claiming the pole position for Formula One's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Hamilton qualified in 1 minute, 24.922 seconds around the Albert Park circuit, one-tenth of a second ahead of teammate Jenson Button, while Lotus' Romain Grosjean was a surprise third.

Mercedes' Michael Schumacher qualified fourth, ahead of the Red Bull pair of Mark Webber and reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.

It was a dismal day for Ferrari, with Fernando Alonso spinning off into a gravel trap early in session two and qualifying in 12th place, while Felipe Massa fared even worse, qualifying 16th.

Comeback driver Kimi Raikkonen also disappointed, qualifying 18th for Lotus.

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg qualified seventh, Williams' Pastor Maldonado an impressive eighth, Nico Hulkenberg was ninth for Force India and Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo rounded out the top 10.

Hamilton's pole was the 20th of his career, making him the 13th man in F1 history to reach that mark and moving him even with Alonso and Damon Hill on the all-time list. It was also the first all-McLaren front row since 2009.

"It's a fantastic feeling to be back here, and it's an incredible start to the season," Hamilton said.

"It was a tremendous job from the team to get us to this point. We've had a couple of tough years, but we never seem to give up."

Four of the past five winners in Melbourne have started from pole position, boosting Hamilton's hopes going into Sunday's race.

Button said he was "quite surprised" by the gap of about two-thirds of a second back to the Red Bulls after Vettel dominated last season.

"Red Bull are always competitive, we should never forget that, but we are going to enjoy this and hope we have a great race," Button said.

Grosjean's third place was the shock result in his first time at the Albert Park circuit. The Frenchman was expected to spend the season in the shadow of Raikkonen, but the 2011 GP2 champion showed he had put behind him his troubled time in F1 in 2009.

"A few people believed in me in the toughest times and today I am back almost at the top," Grosjean said.

Deductions For The Business Traveler - News Sports Travel

Article by Hjalti Chan Levesque

When travel is primarily for business or career-related education, then a portion of the trip may be tax-deductible. As long as most of your travel days are for business purposes, you can deduct the cost of travel.
Travel expenses as defined by the IRS, are the Ordinary and Necessary expenses of traveling away from home for your business, profession, or job. An Ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your field of trade, business, or profession. A Necessary expense is one that is helpful and appropriate for your business
Your trip must be primarily for business. Leisure days can be added to a trip and still be considered primarily for business. The more days and time per day spent on business will help substantiate the trip. There are no specific rules on how many days and how much time per day need to be spent on business for your trip to be considered business related.
Keep all the documentation for business-related travel, including confirmations of appointments, emails, phone records, registration to conferences, etc. The days spent traveling to and from a business trip are considered part of the trip. This includes the weekend if it is impractical to come home between weekday business meetings.
If Traveling with Your Spouse
If a spouse goes with you on a business trip or to a business convention, their travel expenses can only be deducted if your spouse
is your employee,
has a bona fide business purpose for the travel, and
would otherwise be allowed to deduct the travel expenses.
To be considered an employee, your spouse must be on the payroll and payroll taxes must be paid. If your spouse is not an employee and travels with you on vacation, you can still deduct the cost of your room at the single-occupancy-per-day rate, rather than half the rate. Meals can also be deductible. If you are paying for dinner or lunch for a customer or business associate and that person?s spouse, the full cost of the meals might qualify under the 50% meal deduction.
Example: Bill drives to Boston on business and takes his wife, Joan, with him. Joan is not Bill?s employee. Joan occasionally types notes, performs similar services, and accompanies Bill to luncheons and dinners. The performance of these services does not establish that her presence on the trip is necessary for Bill?s business. Her expenses are not deductible.
Ads by Google
Bill pays $ 199 a day for a double room. A single room costs $ 149 a day. He can deduct the total cost of driving his car to and from Boston, but only $ 149 a day for his hotel room. If he uses public transportation, he can deduct only his fare. Further, if Bill has dinner with a customer and spouse, the meal may be deducted under the 50% meal deduction.
When traveling outside of the United States, the transportation for business trips of one week or less may be deducted. However, only a portion of transportation costs for longer trips are deductible.
Example: You live in New York. On May 4 you flew to Paris to attend a business conference that began on May 5. The conference ended at noon on May 14. That evening you flew to Dublin where you visited with friends until the afternoon of May 21, when you flew directly home to New York. The primary purpose for the trip was to attend the conference.
If you had not stopped in Dublin, you would have arrived home the evening of May 14. You did not meet any of the exceptions that would allow you to consider your travel entirely for business. May 4 through May 14 (11 days) are business days and May 15 through May 21 (7 days) are non-business days.
You can deduct the cost of your meals (subject to the 50% limit), lodging, and other business-related travel expenses while in Paris.
You cannot deduct your expenses while in Dublin. You also cannot deduct 7/18 of what it would have cost you to travel round-trip between New York and Dublin.
You paid $ 450 to fly from New York to Paris, $ 200 to fly from Paris to Dublin, and $ 500 to fly from Dublin back to New York. Round-trip airfare from New York to Dublin would have been $ 850.
You figure the deductible part of your air travel expenses by subtracting 7/18 of the round-trip fare and other expenses you would have had in traveling directly between New York and Dublin ($ 850 ? 7/18 = $ 331) from your total expenses in traveling from New York to Paris to Dublin and back to New York ($ 450 + $ 200 + $ 500 = $ 1,150). Your deductible air travel expense is $ 819 ($ 1,150 ? $ 331).
What Type of Expenses Are Deductible?
Following are expenses that you can deduct when you travel away from home for business:
Transportation Expenses
You can deduct Transportation Expenses when you travel by airplane, train, bus, or car between your home and your business destination. If you were provided with a ticket or you are riding free as a result of a frequent traveler or similar program, your cost is zero. If you travel by ship, additional rules and limits apply.
Transportation Fares
You can deduct Transportation Fares for transportation that takes you between
the airport or station and your hotel, and
the hotel and the work location of your customers or clients, your business meeting place, or your temporary work location.
Luggage and Shipping Expenses
You can deduct the cost of sending luggage and sample or display material between your regular and temporary work locations.
Auto Expenses
You can deduct the cost of operating and maintaining your car when traveling away from home on business. You can deduct actual expenses or the standard mileage rate, as well as business-related tolls and parking. If you rent a car while away from home on business, you can deduct only the business-use portion of the expenses.
Meals and Lodging
You can deduct your meals and lodging if your business trip is overnight or long enough that you need to stop for sleep or rest to properly perform your duties. Meals include amounts spent for food, beverages, taxes, and related tips.
Cleaning Clothes
You can deduct the dry cleaning and laundry expenses you incur while away on business.
Phone Calls
All business calls while on your business trip are deductible. This includes business communication by fax machine or other communication devices.
Tips
You may deduct the tips you pay for any expense listed above.
Miscellaneous Expenses
You can deduct other similar ordinary and necessary expenses related to your business travel. These expenses might include transportation to or from a business meal, public stenographer?s fees, computer rental or Internet access fees.

(AP) ? John Demjanjuk, a retired U.S. autoworker who was convicted of being a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp despite steadfastly maintaining over three decades of legal battles that he had been mistaken for someone else, died Saturday, his son told The Associated Press. He was 91.

Demjanjuk, convicted in May of 28,060 counts of being an accessory to murder and sentenced to five years in prison, died a free man in his own room in a nursing home in the southern Bavarian town of Bad Feilnbach. He had been released pending his appeal.

John Demjanjuk Jr. said in a telephone interview from Ohio that his father apparently died of natural causes. Demjanjuk had terminal bone marrow disease, chronic kidney disease and other ailments, and local authorities said the exact cause of death was still being determined.

It was not yet known whether he would be brought back to the U.S. for burial.

Ukrainian-born Demjanjuk (dehm-YAHN'-yook) had steadfastly denied any involvement in the Nazi Holocaust since the first accusations were levied against him more than 30 years ago.

"My father fell asleep with the Lord as a victim and survivor of Soviet and German brutality since childhood," Demjanjuk Jr. said. "He loved life, family and humanity. History will show Germany used him as a scapegoat to blame helpless Ukrainian POWs for the deeds of Nazi Germans."

His conviction helped set new German legal precedent, being the first time someone was convicted solely on the basis of serving as a camp guard, with no evidence of being involved in a specific killing.

Presiding Judge Ralph Alt said the evidence showed Demjanjuk was a piece of the Nazis' "machinery of destruction."

"The court is convinced that the defendant ... served as a guard at Sobibor" from March 27, 1943, until mid-September 1943, Alt said in his ruling.

Israeli Holocaust scholar Yehuda Bauer, who researches at the Yad Vashem memorial, said Demjanjuk's story showed an important moral lesson.

"You don't let people, even if they were only junior staff, get away from responsibility," Bauer said.

Despite his conviction, his family never gave up its battle to have his U.S. citizenship reinstated so that he could live out his final days nearby them in the Cleveland area. One of their main arguments was that the defense had never seen a 1985 FBI document, uncovered in early 2011 by the AP, calling into question the authenticity of a Nazi ID card used against him.

Demjanjuk maintained that he was a victim of the Nazis himself ? first wounded as a Soviet soldier fighting German forces, then captured and held as a prisoner of war under brutal conditions.

"I am again and again an innocent victim of the Germans," he told the panel of Munich state court judges during his 18-month trial, in a statement he signed and that was read aloud by his attorney Ulrich Busch.

He said after the war he was unable to return to his homeland, and that taking him away from his family in the U.S. to stand trial in Germany was a "continuation of the injustice" done to him.

"Germany is responsible for the fact that I have lost for good my whole reason to live, my family, my happiness, any future and hope," he said.

But representatives of victims, Jewish groups and others welcomed his trial as a legitimate quest for justice.

"A death is always tragic. But in this case it is important to say that it was right to put him on trial and sentence him," the president of Germany's Central Council of Jews, Dieter Graumann, told the AP.

"Justice does not know a statute of limitation, and age does not protect from punishment. This was never about revenge, but about justice," he added.

Demjanjuk's claims of mistaken identity, however, gained credence after he successfully defended himself against accusations initially brought in 1977 by the U.S. Justice Department that he was "Ivan the Terrible" ? a notoriously brutal guard at the Treblinka extermination camp.

In connection with the allegation, he was extradited to Israel from the U.S. in 1986 to stand trial on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, convicted and sentenced to death. But the Israeli Supreme Court in 1993 overturned the verdict on appeal, saying that evidence showed another Ukrainian man was actually "Ivan the Terrible," and ordered him returned to the U.S.

The Israeli judges said, however, they still believed Demjanjuk had served the Nazis, probably at the Trawniki SS training camp and Sobibor. But they declined to order a new trial, saying there was a risk of violating the law prohibiting trying someone twice on the same evidence.

Demjanjuk returned to his suburban Cleveland home in 1993 and his U.S. citizenship, which had been revoked in 1981, was reinstated in 1998.

Demjanjuk remained under investigation in the U.S., where a judge revoked his citizenship again in 2002 based on Justice Department evidence suggesting he concealed his service at Sobibor. Appeals failed, and the nation's chief immigration judge ruled in 2005 that Demjanjuk could be deported to Germany, Poland or Ukraine.

Prosecutors in Germany filed charges in 2009, saying Demjanjuk's link to Sobibor and Trawniki was clear, with evidence showing that after he was captured by the Germans he volunteered to serve with the fanatical SS and trained as a camp guard.

Though there are no known witnesses who remember Demjanjuk from Sobibor, prosecutors referred to an SS identity card that they said features a photo of a young, round-faced Demjanjuk and that says he worked at the death camp. That and other evidence indicating Demjanjuk had served under the SS convinced the panel of judges in Munich, and led to his conviction.

He was ordered tried in Munich because he lived in the area briefly after the war.

Demjanjuk, who was removed by U.S. immigration agents from his home in suburban Cleveland and deported in May 2009, questioned the evidence in the German case, saying the identity card was possibly a Soviet postwar forgery.

He reiterated his contention that after he was captured in Crimea in 1942, he was held prisoner until joining the Vlasov Army ? a force of anti-communist Soviet POWs and others formed to fight with the Germans against the Soviets in the final months of the war.

Demjanjuk was born April 3, 1920, in the village of Dubovi Makharintsi in central Ukraine, two years before the country became part of the Soviet Union. He grew up during a time when the country was wracked by famines that killed millions, and a wave of purges instituted by Stalin to eliminate any possible opposition.

As a young man Demjanjuk worked as a tractor driver for the area's collective farm. After being called up for the Soviet Red Army, he was wounded in action but sent back to the front after he had recovered, only to be captured during the battle of Kerch Peninsula in May 1942.

After the war, Demjanjuk was sent to a displaced persons camp and worked briefly as a driver for the U.S. Army. In 1950, he sought U.S. citizenship, claiming to have been a farmer in Sobibor, Poland, during the war.

Demjanjuk later said he lied about his wartime activities to avoid being sent back to Ukraine, then a part of the Soviet Union. Just to have admitted being in the Vlasov Army would also have been enough to have him barred from emigration to the U.S. or many other countries.

He came to the U.S. on Feb. 9, 1952, and eventually settled in Seven Hills, a middle-class suburb of Cleveland.

He was a mechanic at Ford Motor Co.'s engine plant in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park and with his wife, Vera, raised three children ? son John Jr. and daughters Irene and Lydia.

Are You Ready To Consider Some Self Improvement? | Motivation ...

We all know that it can hurt to realize that we need to engage in self improvement. Even the easiest improvement techniques become impossible. It matters little the type of hints that are offered, until the person is in the mood to tell themselves that they need some tweaking, it?s like speaking in the wind. In light of that, it is close to impossible to develop a program of self development that is worth offering to everyone.

Even the finest among us can benefit from some kind of self improvement, even with getting help for low self esteem. It may simply be that we lack motivation. Self esteem issues may stand in our way. It may not be comfortable interacting with others. The majority of things that stop us are areas that can use some self improvement.

The optimal place to begin with self improvement is to determine where you able to use improving. Lacking a planned strategy you make preparationg for failure. Even if in our minds we feel that we are already perfect, this cannot be the case. None of us is perfect and that is refreshing to know.

Now wait a minute, if perfection is what we should try to reach, why would I say that imperfection is okay? Look at it like this. If any person were to become perfect you would in all likelihood look down your nose at the the rest of humanity. you would be superior to others and humility would have no place in their lives. That would leave the rest of us feeling even worse about ourselves, and needing more help for low self esteem .

Just think about it, if we had no areas of our lives that needed improvement, we would not have room to grow. That would be boring? With nothing to look forward to, the entire world would be different.

With the realization that we all could stand some improvement in our lives, makes it possible to provide someone with a remedy for their problems if they can recognize them. At this place, it becomes simpler to reach those in needing adjustment. It really doesn?t do any good to attempt to improve oneself unless you are ready to get started.

Now that that is behind us, you may be wondering if there is anything here to sink your teeth into. I?ll have to admit that I know the above paragraphs will be of help to some. The remainder of you are likely ready to take a look at something with more meat to it.

Anger is frequently targeted as the most needed area of self improvement. That?s right, anger can assume a life of its own if it?s left without being dealt with. If used properly to correct a wrong, anger is an obedient motivator. However, when it?s left to take control it can be very harmful to yourself and others. Some great advice to take would be to allow yourself some righteous anger when needed and then let it go.

Running a close second in the area of harmful emotions, in terms of help for low self esteem,?is fear. We were created with the instinct to protect ourselves. Fear has a way of giving us time to assess the potential for harm. It is the fear of being smashed into the pavement that draws us up short on the curb to determine the danger before proceeding across the street. Doing this protects us. It?s misplaced fear that causes us to panic when faced with traffic.

After successfully addressed our greatest impediments to success, the time comes for gratitude. An attitude of gratitude because we are a unique person even though we may be imperfect is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. The finest joy is generated from thankfulness, and that is what we all seek in life.
